Neurological disabilites prevalence, categories



PREVALENCE
Neurological conditions are extremely varied, they are low incidence disabilities.  The prevalence is only about 0.2 to 1.5 percent, or about 2 per 1000 of the school aged population, although rates vary from locale to locale and from decade to decade.
CATEGORIES
Cerebral Palsy:  a condition caused by injury to the brain before, during, or after birth, and is chiefly characterized by motor disorder.  It is not progressive, nor is it contagious.  It is incurable, although therapy can be helpful in improving comfort and mobility.
Topographical Classification of Cerebral Palsy

Monoplegia
One limb impaired
Diplegia
Four limbs involved, with legs most impaired
Hemiplegia
One side of the body impaired
Paraplegia
Lower limbs of the body impaired
Triplegia
Three limbs impaired
Double Hemiplegia
Both sides of the body impaired, with each side affected differently
Quadriplegia
All four limbs impaired
