A continuation of the blog started in the summer of 2012, a small group of emerging educational assistants share their growing knowledge of the complex and interesting lives of students with exceptionalities in Ontario schools.
Hi Amanda, I had a friend that volunteered for quite some time at Sunrise. What an amazing feeling for these kids to be able to do this. My friend loved the connection between the kids and the horses and the look on their faces.Laurie
I think that making it possible for children with all sorts of exceptionalities to have access to animals is amazing. Animals that are tamed as pets (including the therapeutic horses) are able to provide unconditional love without judgment or wanting to make everything about 'learning' - just the sheer delight of making a connection with such a big friend must be an incredible feeling.
Ava who is in the picture has been riding for 4 years now and this is the only therapy that she is truly excited about. she works very hard to make the horses go FAST!
A close friend of mine took her family to California to meet Anat Baniel, her son was born with CP and has a lot of behavioral issues. They have been so pleased with the results in two weeks they found a trained therapist in Toronto and are over joyed with the progress their son has made. Anat Baniel has a great book out called "Kids Beyond Limits" it is a very good read!
