ASSESSMENT

Neurological disabilities are assessed in a variety of ways by many different types of professionals.
Genetic testing can be performed before birth by a few different methods such as amniocentesis, testing the amniotic fluid, chorionic villus sampling (CVS), when a small piece of the placenta is removed and most commonly a uterine ultrasound.
They are many types of diagnostic testing that are used to assessed neurological disabilities such as brain scans, CT scans (computed tomography), spinal tap (cerebrospinal fluid analysis), EEG (electroencephalography) and EMG (electromyography). These are the most common but there are many more specialized tests as well depending on the effects being displayed.

Neurological examinations are another type of testing. These include motor and sensory skills, coordination and balance, and speech and vision. As well as observing behaviours. Again these are the most common but not the only examples of neurological examinations.
