Did You Know? Interesting FACTS about Students Who are GIFTED

According to researcher and educational expert, Ellen Winner, students who are gifted are:
  • more likely to be introverted than other students?
  • twice as likely than their peers to report feelings of anxiety, stress and/or depression?
  • more likely than other teens to use drugs?
  • more likely than other students to attempt suicide?
  • usually perfectionists?  This means that students who are gifted are both motivated to work towards mastery while on the other hand being unforgiving of personal failure.
  • often plagued with an added responsibility to 'live up to their potential'
  • sometimes conflicted about being identified as gifteded
  • sometimes take enormous risks becasue they aren't concerned about what other's think
